Quiet lane
Quiet today, but on Saturday and Sunday this lane was packed with people who had come to watch the Olympic road races. This is at the top of the first climb onto the North Downs, just before a difficult downhill corner. By the time the womens' race came this way it was pouring with rain.
Many thousands of people will have seen the Surrey countryside on their TVs this weekend, and I suspect that many will have been surprised at how beautiful the county is. It is a common perception that Surrey is a huge commuter belt sandwiched between London and the South Coast counties. In fact the southern half of the county is thickly wooded and there are many narrow lanes and pretty villages. Maybe we'll see an influx of tourists now?
