Thanks, Mum
This picture is not the best, it was taken in a hurry with a telephoto lens through the double-glazed (and not very clean) kitchen window this morning. But it is so sweet, it has to be my best memory of today.
Woodpeckers live in the old trees at the edge of the garden and we often see juveniles lined up on a branch while the adults show them how to get at the peanuts. But I've not seen mother feeding baby while actually on the feeder before.
I'd just started to post this when TM called me to see a baby woodpecker on the paving at the front of the house - he'd heard something hit the window, and there it was with its legs stuck out in front of it and its tail splayed out behind. We thought it was injured, but when he gingerly picked it up (wearing thick gloves) it squawked very loudly and flew off at great speed, obviously none the worse.
