One Large Blue Eye, London

Today was my 25th anniversary of working at the same employers! All those years ago when I started as an assistant everything was very different. It was all large format film (5 x 4 and 10 x 8), which I seemed to spend endless days loading into darkslides. The job also involved mixing large quantities of developer, stop bath and fixer and then processing many, many negatives. Once that was done they all had to be filed into the correct neg sleeves and this was repeated week after week, month after month until I became a photographer myself.
All those years ago we regularly spent £250,000 a year on just processing transparencies! Now, of course, it is all digital and lots of working with photoshop. If anything we take more shots now than we did then. Unfortunately, didn't hear a dickie-bird from my employers to congratulate me on my achievement (?!). Maybe that's because we are now employed by a sub-contractor - we're on to our second company in less than seven years. I suppose that's the way a lot of jobs are going nowadays. Certainly I don't feel particularly appreciated but am so lucky to work with a great group of fellow photographers.
