Herring Gull
We took the Dart train to Greystones today, a seaside town some 50 minutes southeast of Dublin, with intermittent views of the shore along the way--picturesque only for short stretches toward the end. An excellent lunch at Three Qs (in the center of the extra, which shows a typical set of store fronts along the main street). Then we strolled along the shore, with a fair number of gulls and a few rooks. This Herring Gull is probably entering its first summer; it will attain its adult plumage in three more years. (A less than ideal image with my point-and-shoot.)
