Offa's Dyke Path
Today's the day .......................... to follow the signs
We're in one of our favourite parts of North Wales for a few days - staying in the small village of Llanarmon-yn-Ial, near Ruthin.
We took ourselves off for a walk into the nearby hills and came upon the long distance trail - known as Offa's Dyke Path - which follows the English/Welsh border for 177 miles alongside the 8th Century Offa's Dyke from Sedbury near Chepstow to Prestatyn. The dyke was a great frontier earthwork built by Offa, King of Mercia from 757 to 796 A.D. The path takes you through a variety of changing landscapes and while we only walked a few miles of it, it was a pleasure to follow - well signposted and in good condition.
And so to this evening. We're staying in the local, community-run pub - the Raven Inn. We've stayed here several times and it's a great place to be - particularly on a night when the Welsh football team will be taking on Portugal in France. Whatever happens, I suspect it's going to be a memorable night .......................!
