Newick: Village Sign

Another day spent sorting things out in the new house. I took a stroll along to the village green (and the local village shop) at around 7:30 this evening, when I took this photo of Newick's Village Sign, on the Green close to the The Bull.

Most, if not all, of the villages around the Sussex Weald have distinctive signs, made, like this one, out of iron in recognition of the area's significance in the development of the industry - blast furnaces were already in operation in the area in the 1490s - until the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century saw production move to areas of the country with accessible deposits of coal.
