We Will Remember Them

To commemorate the 19,240 soldiers who died on the first day of the battle of the Somme on July 1st 1916.

You hear about or read about these facts in history books but to actually see this precise number represented in such a visual way was a truly humbling experience. It was emotional too. To witness the tears of some of the visitors as we wandered around this memorable piece of war art was in itself a very emotional experience.

Three years of planning and preparing and seven days on show at Northernhay Park in Exeter, I am glad we were able to visit and pay our respects to the 19,240 who paid the ultimate price for the freedom of others.
