Original Oregon Termite

After church we went to Myrtle Point so Annie could pick up her pictures at the Fair. Then had lunch and on the way went by the Lumbermans Museum. Since it was open we decided to go through. Very interesting since my dads first job as a y0ung man was a lumberjack in the woods in Washington State. When we moved to Oregon in 1936, he got a job at Cape Arago Lumber Company in Empire. He was head edgerman (he cut lumber in precise measurements) until he retired in the early 1960's.
This "Original Oregon Termite" caught my eye in the museum. A clever man took a spike from the railroad (no longer in use) in Powers, Oregon and 'fashioned' this termite. The railroad carried logs from the woods to a mill in Marshfield. (The name of Marshfield was changed to Coos Bay many years ago.) It was a fun afternoon.
