Messing with reality
On my mobile phone. Amazing how much processing power we hold in the palm of our hands. I can recall demonstrating a ZX Spectrum to Diana's grandparents some 30 years ago. The game I was loading had to be loaded from a tape using a tape recorder, a hit and miss affair at the best of times and the game was played in very low definition on the TV screen. We all thought it was amazing but just look how far we have come and how will we view this technology in 30 years time?
Off for a walk with Tim today, a walk that is cunningly timed so that it will be lunch time when we arrive at the half way point which also happens to be a pub. Bit of luck that eh.
Have you heard of the swirl? No. Let me educate you then. When two men in a relationship wish to father a baby using a surrogate mother there is often the tricky question of who will provide the sperm as that person being the biological father may have a greater connection to the child. The solution is the swirl. Both men provide a sample, the two samples are mixed and then used to fertilise the egg and in theory, no one knows who's little soldiers got to the egg first so they both love the baby equally. Why am I sharing this? Because the topic was introduced in an episode of 'Modern Family', an American sitcom and in this particular episode a gay guy who had used the swirl with his partner was explaining the process to a gay couple who were struggling with this particular dilemma. The gay couple were delighted to have a solution to their problem when in walks the partner of the guy who had just explained the swirl and he's holding their baby. He happens to be Mexican American and his partner is Caucasian! The swirl was a very good idea but clearly not foolproof - the only thing missing from the baby was a poncho and a wide brimmed pointy hat.
