Cheshire Steam Fair
We headed for Daresbury and the Cheshire Steam Fair this afternoon. The fields were very muddy after yesterday's rain and there was no chance of seeing the magnificent monsters in action. In fact one chap we spoke to said that he had parked his up when he arrived on Friday and hadn't moved since and was concerned that he would not be able to get off the showground without assistance. Despite that, it was a good day and there was plenty to see.
At the top of the field the local model engineering club have their track. We had no idea that this was there. We got chatting to the chap in the photo who last Monday had just completed the building of this kit. He explained that he and a pal had bought one each but sadly his friend had died before completing it. A member of his family and tried to finish the project but had given up and it had lain in a shed for a number of years. The widow of the chap who had owned it asked this gentleman if he would take it on. And now after a few more years it he has finished it. One more test and he will be able to fire it up and run it. By coincidence, Monday, when he finished building it, was also the anniversary of his friend's death.
He suggested that we go for a ride on one of the trains. Which one of us did.
