One hundred years to the day after Donald Simpson Bell VC was killed at the Somme, two of the football teams that he played for met for a friendly fixture at Horsfall Stadium.

Following a commemorative ceremony, Bradford Park Avenue hosted a Newcastle United youth/U21 team whose more clinical finishing led to a 3-0 victory for the visitors. There were some bright signs for Avenue though, and they'll be hoping to make a stronger showing in the National league North this season.
