Cat on a not hot stove

We took a road trip to visit the town where M grew up in the middle of Finland and stayed with an old friend of hers, they met when they were 5 years old, some 50 years ago. They own two adjoining houses, and we stayed in the one with 3 of their four cats, the house is quite old and has a narrow, winding staircase to the top floor where we slept,. The toilet is downstairs, as is this beautiful old stove that was often used by the previous owners.
