Out of its normal habitat....

When I first saw this bird way across the far side of Seafield Pond with its wings outstretched to dry I thought it was a shag and wondered why it had moved from the seashore and rocks to this artificial island on domestic pond even if it is near the sea. However on closer inspection  and after consulting my Collins Bird Guide I see it is most probably a cormorant which also has this distinctive behaviour of drying its wings.
