Long Exposure Newbie

I ordered a tripod off eBay for fairly cheap because my budget doesn't allow large spends at the minute (being a part-timer doesn't off financial comfort) which resulted in the tripod being of poorer quality than I had expecte. So poor that it was already broken by the time it had arrived, oh well. I dug out a miniature tripod that came with a digital camera my mother god a few years back. It is super small but if it means I can take a long exposure shot, I'm satisfied.

This is a shot I got by accident, it's my good friend Jamie skipping some stones. Oh and this is Mornington Beach.
