Way out!
The show closed yesterday but we generally stay overnight and have a leisurely pack up of the stand. We saw no reason to change our usual routine. Before we started on the work I had a stroll down the field to the River Dee at Tongland.
Basically this gave me two main objects of interest, the Hydro Electricity station across the Dee just at the top of the tidal reach or the bridges. Obviously I chose the bridges. Well I am exaggerating a little really it is a bridge and a quarter. There is the road bridge interesting and beautiful in its own right and this "quarter".
At some point in the past a railway has run down towards Kircudbright but that is long gone. Mr Beaching? For reasons which aren't clear the bridge over the river is gone leaving an embankment and these two arches. The route the visitors take getting off the show field passes under the arches and down the lane to the gate in the distance.
