Alberta

I spent a couple of hours this evening helping sort out newly donated stock at the local charity shop. I ended up buying a book of photographs, by Lewis W Hine, of children at work in early 20th century America. This is Alberta McNadd. "Alberta is five years old, and has been picking berries since she was three. Her mother volunteered the information that she 'picks from sun-up to sun-down'. Cannon, Delaware, May 28, 1910."
