Sheffield Canal Basin Today
Our sketching outing today to Victoria Quay, Sheffield. A good journey by train and a lovely day to be out and about. This is my first visit, though years ago Ann lived on a canal barge here - well before the basin was renovated and new buildings put up. The building in front of the barge is The Straddle warehouse which was opened around 1900 - very late for a canal warehouse.
I decided my extra should be one of the Sheffield Elephants that have appeared all over the city, including at the canal-basin. Artists were invited to send in their designs and 58 were chosen. These have now been positioned all around the city. This is one of two elephants in the station forecourt.
