Magnificent Megan!
What a day! We woke up to snow on the mountains (in July!)
We were at the Middle Race Finals of the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Susch-Lavin today and we watched on the big television screen with bated breath as it was announced that Megan was in contention. She entered the spectator run through in sixth place and ran back out into the forest on the steep-sided hillside with just three controls to find before the finish. Then it was announced that she had knocked seconds off the girls in front of her and was in second place! The Brits went wild!
Once through the finish we had to wait for the remaining women to finish and, as it was in reverse order, we knew the tough competition was still to arrive in the field. Megan hung in there and finished the day in a podium place in 4th position, woo hoo!
My blip is of Megan coming through the spectator run-through in the event arena before those final three controls. Sasha also finished in the top twenty (16th place) in the Men's race. Well done both!
Afterwards it was time for us to get out into the steep forest on our courses. There was a lot of climb today but still very enjoyable, beautiful forest. Tony finished in 7th position on his course and I maintained my 4th position from yesterday (just two seconds off third place!)
It's the final day of competition tomorrow at Tarasp, Relay Day!
Here's the team.
