Reflection
Strolling in the city center after work (and after drinking a cup of coffee). Feeling a bit tired and powerless. The sun's still shining but low enough to allow protective shadows to cover the ground.
The Jentower is reflected in the many windows of Bau 59.
Both high-rise buildings were built when Jena was still part of the GDR. After the reunification, both were redesigned (Jentower from 1999-2001, Bau 59 in 1992-1993) resulting in the present-day look.
The Jentower has become a landmark of Jena: It is the biggest office building in the eastern part of Germany and therefore a helpful point of orientation. It was built in the 1970s, motivated by political and representative reasons. The historical residential and business district which had not been destroyed by the war, was sadly torn down for this project. Its shape is supposed to bring to mind a telescope.
Extra photo:
In the foreground: The "anatomy tower", remains of the old city wall - ruins of a circular tower that always seem a bit lost, but transport some traces of history into the modern surroundings.
In the background: The Jentower.
