A BIT OF "BACK WHEN".....
... although this shot probably should be in my "OUTBACK AUSTRALIA...Back When"..... I did in fact take it today on the bat phone!!
Needed to have some test done at Westmead this morning, and while changing trains at Parramatta Station thought I would grab this shot of the old signal box, which was built in 1885.
If you are interested have copied below from this NSW Government heritage site re the Parramatta Station re the signal box.
Enjoy, and have a look in LARGE
.... info.....
SIGNAL BOX (1885)
External: Located on Platform 2/3 the signal box is a free standing, two-storey face brick building with a corrugated iron gabled roof featuring decorative timber bargeboards and eaves. The first floor level is characterised by timber framed sliding windows around the perimeter, which allowed visual and voice communication, and a wide projecting awning supported by iron brackets. The Platform 3 elevation of the box features two fixed arched timber windows to the ground floor. The northern elevation features a central chimney breaking the continuity of the first floor perimeter windows, and solid walls to the ground and basement levels. The signal box has been decorated by using light colour face brickwork along first floor window sills, window arches and as a string course between the ground and basement floor levels.
Internal: Internal access was not available as the building is no longer operating. However; it is said that the signal box houses a variety of interlocking machines dating from 1911 to 1946. The 1911 type BB original Tappet design machine, the 1942 Kellogg key panel, and the 1944 Westmead panel remain in-situ.
