Triberg waterfall
Friday
After a good breakfast at the hotel, we set off towards Triberg, stopping on the way for a little stroll around the village of Kirchzarten. The drive was beautiful - just a shame the weather was rather overcast. Triberg was a most attractive town, and we enjoyed wandering up and down the Main Street, having a look into a couple of the cuckoo clock shops and wood carving shops, before stopping for a bit of lunch. We then set off to explore the waterfalls - Germany's highest waterfalls. The waters of the Gutach plunge for a total height of 163 meters in a series of seven cascades. It is a beautiful walk, quite steep in places, but on a paved path, following the falls, and with the added interest of red squirrels, even a black squirrel, and the distinctive bird called the nutcracker. Having followed the Falls all the way to the top and back down, we were ready for a cup of tea and a (shared) piece of Apple strudel on our return! We took a different road home, stopping for a stroll round the village of Waldkirch on the way. The skies were clearing at this point, so we were blessed with some sunny intervals. This evening we enjoyed another excellent dinner at the hotel - we shall be sorry to leave it tomorrow to go to another one, since they were already fully booked for Saturday and Sunday nights.
