Greenmantle.....

It is 100 years ago exactly since John Buchan published his second novel in the Richard Hannay series - Greenmantle.     In the Thirty Nine Steps, Hannay had become involved with many of the dark activities leading up to the beginning of WW1.   Greenmantle finds him at war, holding a commission, but back involved with secret intelligence matters again.

Broughton Ales - in the village of Broughton very close to here - has brought out a Centenary edition of their Greenmantle Ale.   (I am not a great beer drinker at all, but son-in-law will be here later in the week.)

Broughton village was where John Buchan's mother was brought up, and met John's father when he was working at the church there, covering for the minister who was unwell.
