An afternoon out in Stratford-upon-Avon. We were planning to go and visit an art exhbition in the church, for the Shakespeare 400 year celebrations, but the church was closed for a wedding. So we had a leisurely cup of tea and dinner, before heading off to the Swan Theatre for their production of Doctor Faustus.

This artwork adorns the entrance to the gallery - it is to represent Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers. Beautiful. The full effect can be seen in the extra.

The play was amazing - matches are lit at the beginning of the show to determine who plays Faustus and who plays Mephistopheles. Given that Faustus is then on stage for the whole of the show, this is incredibly impressive.

The language of Marlowe is not a patch on Shakespeare's, but the music,  movement and tension of the show itself was breathtaking.
