Devizes and The Giant's Vertebrae.

In splendid sunshine, we went for a walk round Devizes. 
The last leg of the trail followed the Kennett & Avon canal to the awe-inspiring Caen hill flight of locks, 29 in all, extending over 2 miles. Completed by John Rennie in 1810 in order to carry the waterway to a height of 237 ft, the sequence of locks, 16 of them climbing the hillside has been described as the giant's vertebrae.
