Fort Augustus to Laggan

Legs rested and clouds emptied we cycled the stretch of the Great Glen Way from Fort Augustus to (almost) Laggan today. It was by the far the easiest of the three sections as route was pretty much flat on the canal side path, passing swing bridges and pretty locks.

At Kytra lock there is a small cleared area where the Great Glen Way route managers have created an informal wild camping area. We stopped here to have our packed lunch and enjoy the buzz of activity as the various boats we had left behind in the locks at Fort Augustus finally caught up with us and passed through.

The small cleared area amongst some majestic pines also provided a great opportunity for a post lunch game of hide and seek.

Onwards after lunch towards Laggan in the glorious sunshine with only the occasional roar of jets overhead interrupting the peace.
