Rose - Peace

I like plants with stories.

This rose was bred in France in the thirties and it is rumoured that the first of this new rose was sent to USA on the last plane before the German invasion.  Seems like a fine rumour to me.

Because of the Second World War and poor communication it received several names.  The breeders want to name it after an Allied Forces strategic planner.  He declined, suggesting it be called Peace instead.  And so it was.  It's new name was announced on the same day which Berlin fell in 1945.

It was presented to each delegation at the inaugural United Nations.  conference in San Francisco.  An idea worthy of resurrection.
