Sgwarnog: In the Field

Marbled

The Marbled Whites that have colonised the meadow on either side Bradford Beck at Shipley over the past few years are still evident; I found three today, all on the west side of the river.

The grass was swarming with Meadow Browns and Small Skippers, with a few tired looking Ringlets, a couple of Small White and a fresh Small Tortoiseshell.

I've still not found a Common Blue here this year. There were a couple of horse staked out for grazing in the Spring and they seem to have polished off much of the Bird's foot Trefoil which may have made a difference.

But throw in a Silver-Y, Straw Dots and a Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet and there was still plenty to be seen.

All duly submitted to the Big Butterfly Count
