Young common terns

A bit soft...I only had my little camera. These terns were on the Peedie Sea, the big pond in Kirkwall. Both common and Arctic terns seem to have had a good breeding year in Orkney, a welcome change to years of very low or even no breeding at all. I have seen both types carrying food to large chicks in various parts of the islands and heard of good numbers elsewhere in the county.
