The Visit

The sunshade has been hoisted outside on the patio In readiness for what is to be the sunniest and hottest day of the year. The heat is the heat of the Continent and the sun so burning that it is a pleasure to seek the shade at times and cool off.

His Lordship has taken to the hills to recharge his batteries, a day earlier than usual because of the torrential rain expected overnight and tomorrow, while I look forward to a flying visit from my friend of many talents, who has flown in from Ireland for a previously booked appointment.

When she comes this afternoon, we will sit under the sunshade and catch up on six weeks of missed gossip.

And that was exactly what we did, with wine as an aid memoire ;nothing better than sitting outside with a friend in the sun, imbibing rosé while putting the world to rights.
