The Bridge over the Atlantic

Today was beautiful, sunny and warm, so we set off for the island of Seil, reached by this wonderful bridge, opened in 1793 and still going strong.

After crossing Seil we took the small passenger ferry, just a boat with an outboard, for the few minutes voyage to the island of Easdale. Both islands were part of the largely 19th century Argyll slate industry - you can read all about it here.

There are walks all around the island with great views of the now-flooded quarries - a wonderful day out just a short distance from Oban. There's a fascinating museum there too.

On the way back I popped into the lovely little garden of An Cala, on Seil.

My extra today is of a clump of harebells growing at the edge of one of the flooded quarries. There are many harebells on the island, mostly growing in slate debris. You can see a few more pictures on Flickr - here.
