US Holiday Day6
Whale Watching Monterey
Every day is more WOW, and today is no exception. So today we had 12 Humpback Whales, 5 Blue Whales (yes Alan Davies - Blue Whales) countless Dauphins and Seals, several Sun Fish (Mola Mola) and Albatrosses plus Sea Otters. And Santa Cruz and San Francisco. So WOW and again WOW
We went out in a small inflatable boat, just 6 of us and the guide/driver w a qualified marine biologist who had worked on the Big Blue programme (a bit like Spring Watch) shown last year, very knowledgeable lady. The first hour or so was thick fog, we were getting excited about Seagulls. But after that it cleared and we had the most incredible couple of hours watching whales and other wildlife. Being so close to these magnificent animal was very emotional and humbling.
I took a lot of pictures today. The main subject was the area of sea that a dauphin, seal, whale or bird had been in slightly before I took the shot. These seascapes were very nice but seemed to lack something.
Interesting information - Whale breath smells bad and can be smelt for several miles in the wind. Also marine biologists get very excited about Whale poo, I missed the exact reason why but this one really did.
The extra shots are Blue Whales and Dauphins.
