Big Butterfly Count 2016

I've taken part in the Big Butterfly Count each year for several years now, and it's quite interesting to look back from time to time, either via their website, or through my own blips.

Yesterday, I only saw a comma and two whites. Today, in spite of the glorious weather and the magnificent flowers in Elford Hall Gardens, there were not the usual range of varieties. Plenty of whites (mainly large whites with a few green veined), four Small Tortoiseshells - and I chose this photo with the wonderful lavender - two Meadow Browns, a Ringlet and a Comma ! By this stage, there are usually lots of Small Tortoiseshells, Peacocks and increasingly Red Admirals and Painted Ladies.
