How Green was my Valley

A morning of sightseeing which meant missing the monster breakfast, waffles ’n’all. Our driver, Nabil, first wheeched us off to see the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque which is well, very grand. The largest carpet in the world he proudly declared, pointing at the flair. We didn’t have the heart to tell him that according to wikipedia, those bastards at Abu Dhabi have procured a bigger one from the Iranians for their new mosque.  Anyways, it contains 1,700,000,000 knots and weighs 21 tonnes. Hmmm. I can’t see that flying.
Then onward - the fish market at Mutrah. How delightful - just the thing to pad round in your straw soled loafers. Then to the ‘famous’ Souq for a bit of shopping where I managed to haggle down a trader from 3.5R to 3R for a 1R mug of a woman in a burka.  Class. Onward! To old Muscat (above) where we did a bit of culture looking round a gallery and museum before a neb at the Wazir’s bizarre 70s style Palace and home via the supermarket for more water and those lovely Starbucks ready made Mochas. And then a much needed dip.
Early start tomorrow - off to the mountains! Stand by for more stunning photos and Pensioner tales!
