Silver Studded Blue Butterfly

This morning I went to Prees Heath Common in Shropshire, the only site in the Midlands where the Silver Studded Butterfly lives. It's very particular about it's habitat needing heather and to be near the black ant as the ants tend the larvae. The site is owned and managed by Butterfly Conservation so is protected for them.

The males are blue and females brown. They were all a bit tatty as it's the end of the season ( a couple of males in the extra).
