Exciting restoration
Today the local historical society gave an interesting talk about the restoration of the carillon of 23 bells in the Camponile ( erected to commemorate the centenary of the arrival of the 1820 British settlers in Port Elizabeth)
These bells, weighing a total of 70 tons, will hopefully be heard early next year.
Each bell is inscribed with the names and details of the donors.
And the bells were on display in another newly restored historical site - the old Port Elizabeth tram shed. It is good to know that, in spite of the political turmoil in our country, not all the early history is being destroyed.
