Souviens-Toi: Remember

Day 2 of my (Annie's) trip had only one fixed deadline: meet Chris and the girls at Toulouse airport in the afternoon. That wasn't too far, and wasn't for ages, so I had time for some exploring first.

I visited Oradour-sur-Glane, a very moving abandoned and ruined village. On the 10th June 1944, a section of the Waffen-SS massacred 642 men, women and children from the village. The village itself was burnt. Following the war, the village was preserved as a memorial - and to remember.

It was an eerie experience walking through the streets, imagining bustling village life, all extinguished by human madness.

Picking Chris and the girls up later on, we fought our way out of heavy Toulouse traffic and made it to the very beautiful city of Carcassonne for the night.
