A night out at the horses

Guess where we were tonight? Yes, as a delayed birthday present, I was taken to see the stage performance of 'Warhorse', based on the book by Michael Morpurgo and which you may have seen as a cinema blockbuster. The stage version is quite magnificent, with a whole range of animal and bird puppets, small and large, accompanying the human actors who also include musicians and singers performing live. It is a quite extraordinary spectacle, with the show completely stolen and ridden off with by the life-size horse puppets. These are SO good that, after about two minutes, I'd stopped noticing the human operators. A truly remarkable performance. And a wonderful birthday treat that was well worth the wait. Quite the cream on the cake for our Olympic week in London.
