Croquet

We had a wonderful dinner last night with Gavin's colleague from Chicago and it was interesting hearing his views on the US election. I was proud to see my boys were so informed and had an opinion on the things we discussed, it's good when kids engage and get to form their own opinions.

He stayed over but left early this morning, and as it was such a beautiful day and it is the summer holidays after all, we decided to go to the club to enjoy their swimming pool and the boys also wanted to play croquet. When the boys were little I used to take them there all the time to swim and play tennis, and nowadays they only go there to play golf, and drive themselves! It was quite sad seeing all the other young parents with their kids in the pool and remembering the days when my kids were like that, although I wasn't the only one feeling old, even 15 years old Thomas said he felt old as last time he swam there he was so much smaller and younger.

They have a wonderful bit of flat lawn under the magnificent cedar trees where one can play croquet. As Adam plays in his college team at university, and Luke is just good at all sports, there was much rivalry and competition between them, each trying to prove who was better at croquet. Typical boys, everything becomes a competition! It was Gavin and Luke vs Adam and Thomas, and the former pair won. Just a bit of fun and then the boys went to swim and I lay in the shade and read my book for a while.

I started watching the TV program Master of Photography and it was so interesting, I think I am going to enjoy this series - 8 weeks and 8 photography challenges for the final 12 who were selected out of thousands of entrants.
