Lake Kuvelampi
Today we made extempore decision to make day road trip. It was already noon when we start, so destination couldn't be very far from Hamina.
So I pin pointed Mikkeli are from map. It is about 150-200 km and 2-3 hours depending selected roads from our home, located in South-Savo, in the heart of Lakeland Finland. Mikkeli area is full of small towns by beautiful lakes and nature.
Our first stop was at Ristiina. From there you can hike to see Astuvansalmi rock paintings, one of the biggest rock painting sites in the Nordic countries. The paintings are on steep bedrock approximately 10 meters above the current water level. The paintings are between 4500 and 6000 years old, and the age has been estimated by examining the history of the water level. The hike there and back is quite quick, 8km and 1,5 hours. The route goes along lake sides and over rocky hills in forest.
Paintings itself are well worth the hike, also the views are great along the route and from top of painted rock wall.
After this we drove to Mikkeli City for city tour and dinner. We had B the Dog with us, so dinner was rather eating than dining.
Mikkeli was busy city, beautifully placed and full of life even in late Saturday afternoon. Lots of Pokemon hunters there also.
After we got home I had my short run around town.
Great day. It feels great to be alive and at holiday!
