Living in Manchester

University

This is where I came to study Botany in 1978.
(Well not in this building but over the road in the Williamson Building)

The University of Manchester can trace its roots back to the formation of the Mechanics' Institute (later to become UMIST) in 1824, and its history is closely linked to Manchester's emergence as the world's first industrial city.

There are over 85,000 students over 18 years old studying in Manchester.
The city has four Universities, Manchester (pictured here),
UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology), Manchester Metropolitan (used to be the Polytechnic) and Salford University.
There is also the Royal Northern College of Music and the Business School.

Another 14 Universities and higher education institutions in surrounding areas, make the total population of students almost 350,000 within an hour's drive time of Manchester.

That is a truely frightening thought!
