Baltic cruise (Day 5 – Stockholm)
Stockholm is a city built on 14 islands, but apparently there are thirty thousand islands in the Stockholm Archipelago; so the journey in to the city on such a beautiful sunny morning was really quite spectacular – this was the view from our balcony as we approached at around 07.40.
We all went into town and had a walk around the main harbour area, and decided to take a sightseeing canal cruise to see some of the city from the waterways. One thing that struck me was how many very large and imposing buildings there are in the city, from Kungliga Slottet (the Royal Palace) and the Riksdagshuset (Parliament House) [Extra 1], to the Opera House and the many museums.
Then Mrs Lomond and I had a wander around Gamla Stan (the Old Town area) [Extra 2], which is really lovely.
Coming back out of the archipelago in the evening was also a really lovely journey, as we head on to our next destination….
