a little bit of rhubarb

Coaxed the boss into taking me out on a site visit, to have a look at the last property that architects Walter Burley & Marion Mahony Griffin worked on before they took off for India in the 1930s. It's up for sale at the moment.

Justified my presence by pointing out that I was more likely to get information out of the lady we were meeting than he was (not to blow my own trumpet, but I'm so good at getting people to talk that I really should be working for ASIO). And this particular lady grew up in the house, so she knew what the place originally looked like, prior to huge remodelling. So I got to chat with a lovely lady for the morning and got the grand tour, while the boss fended off scavenging tracksuit-clad property developers who'd smelled the gates open from a 20 mile radius and thought they'd size up the estate for mass subdivision and development.

I have to say, the place may be state heritage listed, but it didn't float my boat and I bet it was darn cold in the wintertime. I did like the little sunken garden that was put in by Marion Griffin - just not enough to pay the $7,000,000+ price tag (about 4.8 million pounds) that it would cost to buy the place.
