"to notice"
Today being my two year anniversary, is the day I had decided some time ago to change the name of this daily practice of noticing to just that - "to notice". When I began two years ago I was heading off to SW France and neighbor and friend NanaK helped me get organized. The journal name "blipblop" was just what came to mind.
Now two years later without missing a day, I think about this daily practice as I know do many. A photography teacher once said that it is our job as photographers "to notice" - that registered. I am a person who has always engaged in one practice or another, a rowing practice, a painting practice - - - The notion of practice with no goal beyond the daily exercise of that act appeals to the buddhist in me. I am hardly a Buddhist; however the related readings and poetry that I have taken on have always made so much sense to me. No striving, no pleasing, just simply being.
So off into a third year, knowing that my daily practice will include the most ordinary of photos. There is so much visual in our worlds, what is interesting has likely been shown in one form or another many times. I strive to look at what I come across freshly, "to notice" it for itself. And to capture it as best I can with what I have to work with.
And although I am not connected to very many in this website, I certainly enjoy and appreciate the ones with whom I am. Thank you for your attention. The acknowledgement this winter when my husband was so so sick was the kind of warmth from strangers that has one realize the many connections we humans are capable of. Bless you all.
