His and Her Hair

These 2 lovely people agreed to have their photo taken this morning. Mrs A is my patient and has recently had chemotherapy. She is very distressed about losing her hair and she feels she has aged 20 years in the last 6 months. There is a lot of grieving when one faces a severe illness: it not just one's mortality you are facing: the loss of one's normal role is jeopardized, in work and in play. This lady is anguished by her appearance and that needs to be acknowledged. Fortunately her hair should grow back healthy. In contrast her husband has a very fine head of hair and we were able to laugh at the comparison between the 2 of them. It was a lovely day in clinic today: busy but productive and all my letters done by the close of play. I get a lot out of seeing my patients who give me more than probably realise. It's a good 2 way deal.
