Cuningar Stones in Cuningar Loop

A wee visit to this fabulous developed woodland walk in Rutherglen today. Huge boulders to climb, bike tracks, Boardwalk beside the river Clyde, adventure playground- all very natural and fitting the landscape!
During our walk, we came across random large stones which had been carved with lettering. They almost looked as if they had been there for centuries!. As we were reading one we actually met the sculptor - above left- James Winnett who was the artist in residence! He told us that the stones had been dumped into the site during the 50's and 60's demolition of the Gorbals. There were blocks that used to be the corner of buildings and gate posts etc. The picture above right is the lettering that had been found underneath the rafters of Farmecross
Castle and he reckoned that the words dated from 13thC. Worth a visit!
