Chain Gang

Mono Monday: Link

I found a picture of you.
You had hijacked my world that night.
To a place in the past we'd been cast out of.
Now we're back in the fight.
We're back on the train
Oh, back on the chain gang.

A circumstance beyond our control,
The foreign TV and the News of the World
Got in our house like a pigeon from hell, oh oh oh oh
Threw sand in our eyes and descended like flies
Put us back on the train
Oh, back on the chain gang

The powers that be
They force us to live like we do
Bring me to my knees
When I see what they've done to you
But I'll die as I stand here today
Knowing that deep in my heart
They'll fall to ruin one day
For making us part

I found a picture of you,
Those were the happiest days of my life
Like a break in the battle was your part,
In the wretched life of a lonely heart
Now we're back on the train
Oh, back on the chain gang

Pretenders - Back On The Chain Gang

I saw the Pretenders play in Birmingham back in the summer of 1980 when I was at University.

It was a small venue and Chrissie Hynde was a great front woman in that environment .  Pete Farnsworth was playing bass and Jim Honeyman-Scott was on lead guitar.  Jim was a brilliant guitarist and I remember watching him, totally entranced by his ability.  Yet like so many before and since just two years later he was dead of a massive drug overdose, and Farnsworth followed soon after.

Chrissie is supposed to have written this song as a memorial to Honeyman-Scott and she dedicated it to his memory.

This has been a very literal approach to Skena's Mono Monday challenge this week, but I rather enjoyed this exercise in lighting.  I'm struggling a bit for time again just at the moment, partly because we are off on our travels shortly and there is a lot to do between now and then!  I will try to catch up as and when I can.
