US Holiday Day 12
Crater Lake to Burney
Returned to the lake this morning and it was still as stunningly beautiful as it was yesterday. We found that the boats we were told were not running were indeed working but our plans had changed so no voyage for us. We did walk down to the jetty for a quick paddle, unfortunately this means we had to walk back up to the top. Rather steep and warm and sunny so many pauses for photos and to try and find some more oxygen.
We started our return trip, Crater Lake being the most northerly point of our journey, with a small diversion to visit Beckies Restaurant, famous for its home made fruit pies. Lots to choose from so we had a different one each and passed them round. across the road was the Union Creek Chuckwagon, "BBQ done right". Its BBQ was attached to the end of a chuck wagon, some dinners eating inside the covered wagon. No we didn't, the pie was enough.
Quite a long drive through beautiful but changing scenery. The mountains of Crater Lake, (views from the mountain in the extra picture) gave way to a long wide valley, grass with cows scattered about (where were the cowboys?). That in turn changed to the volcanic landscape of the Lassen Nation Park. Visiting there tomorrow, tonight in the motel in the blip eating snacks and drinking beer from the supermarket across the road. A bit of confusion re our booking but sorted well and we ended up in an upgraded suite. Winner.
