The Volunteer

When you miss a potato while you are lifting them, and they grow up the following year, in the middle of a different crop of vegetables, they are known as volunteers.  This year there are lots of poppies appearing all over the garden, unbidden and self sown, random spots of bright colour in the gravel paths and throughout the borders.  Lovely to see them.
