Pilgrim's Rest, South Africa

Pilgrim's Rest was declared a gold field on the 22nd September 1873. By 1896 many of the tents had been replaced by more permanent buildings (info from the Pilgrim's Rest Museum). The extras are of a lady carrying her produce to sell to the visitors, and the colour photo is of the classic South African Melktart, very similar to our custard tart but it is made with more milk, and is delicious ;-)
