The Hunt...
We finally decided that it was the right weather for owl hunting, so we headed out for a pub meal and then a stroll around Lunt Meadows.
On the way to the pub, we saw a couple of twitchers with HUGE lenses down a lane and they were still there when we'd finished our meal so we parked up behind their cars.
It turned out that they were looking at a young Little Owl in a tree. Even though it was quite far away and my camera is not so good, I was beside myself with excitement - I was finally going to see owls in the wild!
This shot is the best of a very bad bunch, but it just had to be my blip for today!
We then walked over to the meadow and met another bird watcher who was a regular. He told us about the barn owls that were around but said he'd not seen any this evening. We chatted for a while and then he said he'd give it another half hour and would then call it a night. We joked that they would turn up 5 minutes after he left at 8:30.
As it happened, they turned up at 8:28, so he was in luck - one was hunting quite far away, but we could see it with the binoculars, and the other was slightly closer, but even still, I only got a couple of really blurry shots.
But I don't care, as I have seen two types of owl today and we now know where to look :)
I can see us making a few more trips out to go owl hunting when the weather is fine and I am actually in the country!
Apparently in the winter, there are also short eared owls, so I look forward to seeing them too later in the year.
